I had some business in the US that took me from eastcoast to west coast and back again -brutal. It was a long trip but i got to do a couple of cool things in between business; i visited the Intriped aircraft carrier museum in NY and the Midway aircraft carrier in San Diego.

If you love tech then you have to marvel at the size and organization of an aircraft carrier. I do anyway. Seeing on of these with your own eyes and walking across the hallways and compartiment and decks of this ship makes alot of history come alive. And its mind boggeling to realize that on such a ship there’s 4 to 5000 people tightly orchestrated to work with machinery, amunnition, fuel, helicopters and jets. All of that on one ship.Until you set foot on one of these ships you can’t really grasp rhe size and magintude of this. Discovery channel does a good job on TV but experiencing it for yourself is a whole different thing. What’s really cool are the veterans who served on the ship that give tours or offer just a friendly chat. They give a lot of colour to it all and explain how systems and procedures work. Thing like navigating this ship without GPS but with an inertial navigation system. Or landing a plane on a pitching deck (when the ship goes up and down on the waves). Or how the operators keep track of all the planes on and below deck and their status with something called a  weegeeboard. And then theres the planes and helicopters on deck, just cool to see this up close. My favorite spot has to be the CIC short for Combat Information Center. Its located in the bowels of the ship and it’s the heart of threat analysis and combat operations…or the place where all the scopes radios and screens light up the room. If you ever get the chance to visit one off these aircraft carriers you really should ! Check out the photos
